PARIS CAN WAIT Interview with Eleanor Coppola [VIDEO]

20 May, 2017

It was a great pleasure and unique opportunity to speak with Eleanor Coppola, who at the age of 81 has made her feature film debut with PARIS CAN WAIT (2016)–a Sony Pictures Classics film–which stars Academy Award nominee Diane Lane (Anne Lockwood), a Hollywood producer’s (Michael Lockwood portrayed by Alec Baldwin), wife who unexpectedly takes a road trip through France, which awakens her sense of self and her joie de vivre. Ellie, as she is commonly called amongst friends and colleagues, is the wife of legendary Hollywood filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola and grandmother of five. Francis was helpful during the filmmaking process as he stepped in to solve some “difficult problems,” which she encountered while making the film.

PARIS CAN WAIT takes the audience on an enjoyable whirlwind ride of charm, humor, beauty and adventure traveling through the countryside of France from Cannes to Paris. The idea for the movie came about when Ellie shared her experience with a friend about a previous business trip at the Cannes Film Festival with her husband that resulted in an unexpected and exciting escapade. Ellie’s friend then encouraged her to make a fictional film based on her adventure. Francis’ French business partner, played by Arnaud Viard (Jacques Clement), had offered to give Eleanor a ride to Paris from Cannes. The plan was to be at the family’s Paris hotel in 24 hours, but the car trip ended up extending into a 2-day adventure of food, wine, humor, wisdom and much more with the charming Frenchman.
