On Wednesday night at the Bank of The West Classic taking place at Stanford University July 18th-24th, No. 1 seed Venus Williams slid past Magda Linette defeating her in three sets: 6-3, 6-7, 6-2. Williams, ranked No. 7 in the world, won the first set and lost the second in a 8-6 tiebreak. However, the seasoned player made a strong comeback in the third deciding set starting out with a 4-0 lead and eventually sealing the deal with a victorious final score of 6-2. With this win, Williams moves onto the quarterfinals on Friday evening at 7 p.m. where she will face either CiCi Bellis or Sachia Vickery who will compete this afternoon.

This is Venus Williams’ 13th main draw appearance at Stanford. The 36-year-old veteran tennis player made her debut at Bank of The West Classic over 20 years ago in 1994. At Wimbledon earlier this month, she advanced to the semifinals for her first Slam SF since the 2010 US Open. And along with her sister, Serena, she won her 14th career Grand Slam doubles title at Wimbledon defeating Babos/Shvedova in the Final.
