Interview with Artist Carly Ivan Garcia at ZSCA Gallery
06 Mar, 2016
We caught up with Bay Area abstract artist Carly Ivan Garcia to talk about his new artwork and show “Reconstructed Abstractions of the Urban Experience” on display at Zener Schon Contemporary Art Gallery (ZSCA) in Mill Valley, California.
Watch the video to see what he had to say:
Dig In Magazine: What is the main theme of your new show “Reconstructed Abstractions of the Urban Experience” at Zener Schon Contemporary Art?
Carly Ivan Garcia: The theme for this show was to put the best work I’ve ever created forward. [I] was given the opportunity to showcase my work at this level and I just felt that I put a lot into it. And I wanted to let the viewer have more of the decision.
DIM: What pieces are you most proud of?
CIG: I like the faces that I’ve done throughout my career–like the different emotional faces. [And] the “Popcorn” painting that I did. It was done with a different medium than I usually work on–a lot of illustration and I’m an abstract painter.
DIM: What’s the future look like?
I’m really looking forward to the panel discussion on March 17th. That should be really fun and it’s going to be with the closing [of the show], so it will be a really good time.
