“Kick-Ass 2,” a follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit, directed by Jeff Wadlow, is nothing short of hilarious and entertaining. Each of the characters were unique and surprised the audience with comedic performances that did not disappoint. Kick-Ass, played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, was believable as he plays the insecure high school kid that deeply desires to be a superhero. The role he plays here is so distinctly different than the romantic roles he’s portrayed in films such as “Anna Karenina” opposite Keira Knightley. You almost forget about his usual romantic personas as he slips so brilliantly into his comedic Kick-Ass character until he reveals his muscular, chiseled physique.
In “Kick-Ass 2,” once again Kick-Ass teams up with Hit Girl played by young beauty, Chloe Grace Moretz. Hit Girl is the ultimate heroin as her strength and fighting skills outweigh that of Kick-Ass’s. He asks her to team up and train him to be the ultimate superhero and crime fighter. But unfortunately, she is forced to retire as she gets caught being Hit Girl by her guardian, Detective Marcus Williams (Morris Chestnut), who wants her to be a regular high school student. When she is forced into retirement, Kick-Ass looks elsewhere for support and joins Justice Forever, led by badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey).
This group is made up of amateur self-made masked crusaders, who all have the same purpose, to save the world from evil. In the film, Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse)—reborn as the super-villain The Motherf%&*^r, goes after Kick-Ass and the Justice Forever crew out of revenge. And the only one that can prevent their annihilation is Hit Girl as she is forced out of retirement and beckoned by her true calling, to fight against evil and save the innocent. There is more violence in “Kick-Ass 2” than 2010’s global hit, but still possesses a great deal of unpredictability. Never knowing who will be murdered next or which characters will survive keeps the viewer on the edge of their seats. “Kick-Ass 2” is insanely funny, filled with action and has a surprise ending that will fulfill your deepest superhero fantasies.
“Kick-Ass 2” comes out in theaters this Friday, August 16, 2013. Visit Kick-Ass The Movie Website for more information.
